Abstract

【課題】光学補償機能に優れ、従来の光学補償シートと同等の光学補償能を持ちながら、光学異方性層の厚さが従来よりも薄膜化され、生産性が向上し、ヘイズが良好で、さらに液晶表示装置の視野角特性の改善に寄与する光学補償シートを提供すること、並びに該光学補償シートを備えた楕円偏光板及び液晶表示装置を提供すること。 【解決手段】液晶性化合物の空気界面での傾斜角が55〜75°であり、且つ空気界面付近の配向秩序度Sが、0.35≦S≦0.7である光学異方性層を有することを特徴とする光学補償シート、並びに該光学補償シートを備えた楕円偏光板及び液晶表示装置。 【選択図】なし
<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation sheet contributing to improvement of viewing angle characteristics of a liquid crystal display device further by having an excellent optical compensating function, thinning a thickness of an optical anisotropic layer more than the conventional optical compensation sheets while having the equivalent optical compensation capability as the conventional optical compensation sheets, improving productivity and making a haze excellent, and to provide an elliptically polarizing plate and the liquid crystal display device provided with the optical compensation sheet. <P>SOLUTION: The optical compensation sheet has an optical anisotropic layer, wherein an inclined angle is 55-75 degrees in an air interface of a liquid crystal compound and a degree S of orientation order in the neighborhood of an air interface is 0.35≤S≤0.7.
